Airbnb, Booking and Vrbo Photo Sizes and Formats

A high pixel count does not guarantee a sharp photo. Before exporting, check the source file and destination channel: listing guidance, editorial recommendations and technical API limits are different things.

1. Official photo guidance at a glance

The table distinguishes the type of source. We do not turn Booking.com's technical Photo API minimum into an Extranet quality target. Expedia's figure is a toolkit recommendation, rather than an upload limit.

Scroll the table to read all columns.

2. Resolution, aspect ratio and quality differ

Resolution is the file's width and height in pixels. Aspect ratio is the relationship between its sides. Quality also depends on sharpness, noise and compression; enlarging a thumbnail does not make it equivalent to an original camera image.

Use the camera original where available. Avoid screenshots or already compressed messages as your only archive. Keep the uncropped file because another channel may need extra room around the subject.

3. Use a repeatable export workflow

Create an originals folder and an exports folder for each property. Name files by room and version, such as property-room-01-v2. Confirm accepted formats in the dashboard before choosing one. Changing the file extension alone does not convert an image.

Open the exported file, check its actual dimensions and inspect flat surfaces and edges. If you see blocks or halos, export again from the original with less compression. Avoid repeatedly saving the same compressed version.

4. Check the uploaded crop

An accepted file can still be unclear in search results. Review the preview on a phone and desktop: the bed, terrace entrance or distinguishing view should remain understandable.

We do not promise that an AI Property Photo output satisfies every platform requirement. After downloading, check dimensions and accuracy, then prepare the appropriate export. When the source contains little usable detail, consider reshooting instead of simply increasing the pixel count.

Action checklist

  • The uncropped original is retained.
  • Exported file dimensions are checked.
  • The dashboard accepts the actual file format.
  • There is no obvious blur or compression damage.
  • The thumbnail has been reviewed on mobile and desktop.
